DEATH OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEMBERS. PRESIDENT’S APPROPRIATE REMARKS. Speaking at the commencement of business at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday evening, the sident, Mr W. Jeffery, made feeling reference to the loss the Chamber had sustained lately by the deaths of Mr A. T. Bryant, president of the Farmers’ Union and that institution’s representative on the Chamber of Commerce, Mr W. A. S. Wcarne, also a valued member, and Mr J. P. O’Sullivan, popular and esteemed townsman who, though not a member of the Chamber was known to all members and regarded as a friend by all. Mr Jeffery, referring to Mr Bryant, said that gentleman had attended last month’s meeting, and he would be sadly massed. Deceased was a young man, imbued with a real desire to assist his fellow men. He had impressed his fellow workers as a pattern to follow, and his demise at such a comparatively early age was a real loss to the community. He had roal : sed the advantages of co-opera-tion, and worked to promote publ : e endeavours. He had set a very high standard of public spiritedness, and though his death would be felt most by his fellow members of the Farmers Union, his ideals would be adopted and followed by all who had been associated with him Mr Wearne, said Mr Jeffery, was also a man of considerable ability and sterling worth, and though undoubtedly suffering from ill-health he had endeavoured to give his best energies for the benefit of the community. Referring to Mr O’Sullivan, Mr Jeffery said that all who had had the honour of his acquaintance esteemed him very highly. Mr O’Sullivan had bt'en a generous helper in every worthy endeavour, and was a firm friend and a man in the truest sense of the word. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with the relatives of the three gentlemen named.
