LOCAL ELECTIONS
POLLING TAKING PEACE TO-DAY. MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY. The election of members of local bodies is taking place throughout New Zealand to-day. In Te Awamutu there are ten can didates for eight seats on the Borough Council, and the poll is being con ducted by Mr Dudley Bockett, returning officer. Very little interest is beparent in the contest, and the polling up to time of going to press suggests that the number of votes recorded will not be large. At the same time a poll is being taken to elect a member of the Waikato Hospital Board for the constituent district of Te Awamutu Ngaruawahia, and iyThroughout the Waipa county and the town district of Leamington a poll is being conducted to elect two members of the Waikato Hosp’tal Board, there being three candidates. In the Kakepuku, Rangiaohia, and Newcastle ridings of Waipa county there are contests, and the candidates are. to-day displaying considerable activity, so that a fairly good poll should result. In the Otorohanga county chief interest centres in the contest for the Wharepapa riding, for which six candidates are contesting the two seats. Here again the activity of the candidates should result in a fairly large vote being recorded. There is also a contest in the Honikiwi riding. At Kihikihi interest is being taken in the election of Town Board members, and indications point to a good poll. A public meeting, held in the Town Hall on Monday evening, to hear the views of Mr It. Eyre and’ Mrs I. A. R. Collins, candidates for the Waikato Hospital Board, was sparsely attended. Mr R. Grace presided and after the candidates had delivered their addresses they were accorded a vote of thanks anti confidence, the resolution being moved by Mr A. G. Laloli and seconded by Mr T. Adams.
