TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Mr G. B. Melrose presided at the monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu District High School Committee last evening, and also present were Messrs J. Waters, E. Mienary, J. A. Maxwell, G. M. Wall, J. A. Marston, L. S. Armstrong, W. C. Savill, and the secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard. The headmaster, Mr A. H. Woods, was in attendance. As this was the first meeting of the newly-constituted meetings, the chairman cordially welcomed all former members and also Mr Wall, the only new member, who, he felt sure, would Drove a very useful member. Mr Wall made a suitable acknow ledgment. The Board of Education recommended approval of the appointment of Mdss I. J. Rhodes, of Kinohaku, as an extra assistant in the primary department.—Agreed to, it being- remarked that Miss Rhodes had formerly been on the staff of the- school. TENDERS CALLED. Intimation that tenders had been called for the erection of the new intermediate school building was received from the Minister of Education, the Auckland Board of Education, and Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. The statement of finances was tabled by Mr Wynyard, and considered satisfactory. Mr Melrose reported that the recent Paddy’s Market had created a record in the matter of net proceeds, and hd considered all concerned were entitled to commendation for their part—those who equipped and conducted the stalls and those who purchased the goods. He added that so successful was the effort that if it could be maintained at that standard annually there would be no need to make any other appeals for public patronage. Mr Armstrong reported that the shower spray equipment authorised at last meeting for installation at the boys’ shelter, and more particularly for the football playing scholars, would be installed before the end of the week. PLAYING AREAS. The Junior Advisory Board’s application for permission to play occasional Rugby matches at the school ground, was granted on the usual conditions. The same applies to an application from the Waipa Basketball Association for the use of the basketball courts for the. present season. Accounts totalling £l5 13s 4d were presented and passed for payment. It was decided that any goods ordered on behalf of the school must only be obtained from tradespeople on production of a order from the Committee or the headmaster. CROWDED CLASSES. The beadmaster reported that after the holidays he would have to have a class domiciled in the porch of the secondary school building. Coat-hooks would have to be shifted to the long corridor. He asked for some heating appartus, as the adapted room would be very cold in the winter months. Permanent heating would not be needed, as with the new intermediate school building shortly to be erected, the congestion would be relieved. Mi Woods added that the same problem obtains in the infant building. He proposed to double-bank two classes* in one room there as a trial, the alternative being to use the cloak-room. Approval was given the headmasters’ application to the Board of Education for provision of a stove in each of the buildings. It was decided to grant a whole holiday on Friday, June 3rd, to enable the scholars to attend the Waikato Winter Show, as an organised school visit, if there were sufficient children desiring to make the journey, and it was hoped that teachers and parents wou’d accompany them. Special train arrangements, with excursion fares, would be available on that day on a special train for all schools between Ohaupo and Tauniarunui.
