PHYSICAL FITNESS

TE AWAMUTU YOUNG MEN’S INSTITUTE. SEASON STARTS WELL. That the Te Awamutu Young Men’s Institute, provides a long felt want by the rising generation was amply demonstrated on Monday evening last, when over 50 young men assembled in the gymnasium in the Albert Park grandstand for the opening night of the 1938 season. A large and praiseworthy degree of enthusiasm prevailed, which augurs well for a highly successful season, and the manner in which the young men entered with a vim into the various exercises and games proved 3 keen desire on the part of all to attain a very high degree of physical fitness. Mr Hary Dean was in charge of the physical culture class and proved himself the right man in the right place, as also did Messrs Alan and Desmond Craig and Eddie Adams who are undertaking instruction in the art of boxino*. Mr L. Bulford will be in charge of the wrestling section, but was somewhat handicapped in his efforts on Monday night on account of a slight injury sustained on the Rugby field. The committed, believing that the Institute is going to enjoy a record season —prospects were never brighter —intend to give the young men every assistance and encouragement, to ably support the burninenthusiasm they have displayed at the opening of the season. With this object in view it is intended at once to purchase additional gymnasium paraphenalia.
