HERD TESTING

NEW ZEALAND CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION. FIGURES FOR MARCH. Butterfat production went down appreciably during the month of March, according co the figures released by the New Zealand Co-operative Herdtesting Association. The number of cows under test for March was 96,371, and the average lbs of milk was 520. with a test of 5.11, and 26.5 lbs fat. For Mjarch, 1937 the 102,960 cows tested had an average of 531 lbs milk, 5.11 test, and 27.2 lbs fat, and for the corresponding month of 1936 the 88,178 cows averaged 547 lbs milk, 5.09 test and 27.8 lbs fat. The 1011 cows in Te Awamutu group averaged 569 lbs milk, 5.18 test and 29 lbs fat. The best herd, 45 cows, averaged 35 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 61 lbs fat.

Te Kawa group’s 2358 cows averaged 519 lbs milk, 5.27 test and 27 lbs fat. The best herd average was 31 lbs fat, two herds averaging this figure. The best cow gave 85 lbs fat. The 940 cows in Paterangi group av eraged 531 lbs milk, 5.27 test and 28 lbs fat. The best herd, 63 cows averaged 35 lbs fat, and the best individual gave 69 lbs fat.

Otorohanga group, the largest in the Association, with 4964 cows, averaged 511 lbs milk, 5.23 test and 27 lbs fat. The best herd average was 37 lbs fat from two herds, and the best cow gave 65 lbs fat. The 987 cows in Hairini group averaged 493 lbs milk, 5.12 test and 25 lbs fat. The- best herd. 42 cows, aver aged 34 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 60 lbs fat.

Kaipaki group’s 1323 cows averaged 597 lbs milk, 4.75 test and 28 lbs fat.. The best herd average was 37 lbs fat from two herds, and the best individual produced 65 lbs fat. In the Kawhia group, 902 cows averaged 502 lbs milk, 5.02 test and 25 lbs fat. Two herds tied for best average with 34 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 59 lbs fat. Kihikihi group’s 2507 cows averaged 576 lbs milk, 5.04 test and 29 lbs fat. The best herd, 41 cows, averaged 40 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 67 lbs fat. A, cow in the Pukekura district topped the individual production with 96 lbs fat, and the best herd was one of eleven cows in th East Tamaki group, with an average of 48 lbs fat.
