MILITARY CAMP
TERRITORIAL TRAINING. FIRST COMPOSITE REGIMENT. The Ist Composite Mounted Rifles Regiment, comprising squadrons drawn from North Auckland, South Auckland, Waikato, King Country. Thames and the Bay of Plenty, went into camp at Hopa Hopa, near Ngaitiawahia, on Saturday and is undergoing a period of training until May 11. There were 208 officers and men under canvas to-day, and this number will be augmented on Wednesday with the arrival of the regimental band from Otahuhu. Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. Pierce, of Ohaupo, is in command, while Majox H. G. Carruth, of Whangarei, is second in command. Other officers include Squadron-Leaders Major F. Dill, Auckland-East Coast, Major D. Morrison, North Auckland. Captain W. Collins, Waikato. Major S. C. Reid is camp quartermaster, and Captain J. A. M. Clachan is camp adjutant. The units in camp will be given instruction in mounted rifle drill and specialist training. A feature of the work this year will be the formation of a light car troop of six cars, which will be used for scouting duties. The regiment was inspected to-day by Colonel O. H. Mead, officer commanding the Auckland military district.
