SWIMMING CLUB

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. A special meeting - of the Te Awamutu Swimming Club was held last evening to consider prospects for the coming - season. Mr A. E. Patterson presided over a good attendance of members. The Mayor, Mr G. Spinley, was also in attendance. Opening the meeting, Mr Patterson said that at the annual meeting last month it was decided in view of recent legislation the club would be unable to carry on control of the baths and it had been decided to approach the Borough Council to ask them to assume control. The Council had complied with this wish and had appointed a caretaker. This meant that the club would be under the same conditions as other bodies which used borough reserves. The Council had also allowed the club two delegates to the baths committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, the Mayor, Mr G. Spinley: president, Mr S. S. Preston; vice-presidents, Messrs Empson, Holt, Mensforth and Patterson; secretary, Mr F. Waters; treasurer, Mr j. Bevin; club captain, Mr R. L. Adams; vicecaptain, Mr D. Steer; delegates to the South Auckland Centre, the president and captain or vice-captain; committee, Messrs F. McVay, Howie, M. Haselden, P. Steer; management committee, Messrs Preston, Waters, Bevin, Adams and D. Steer; handicappers, Messrs F. Moody and Mensforth; starter, Mi - Empson; call steward, Mr Holt; auditor, Mr W. McGivern; delegates to fhe baths committee, Messrs Preston and Patterson. On the motion of Mr Patterson it was decided that the: movable assets of the club at present at the baths should be handed over to the Borough Council.
