AS REPORTED IN THE WAIPA POST ON AUGUST 25th, 1911. A public meeting was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to consider the proposals of the Town Board to provide a water supply at Te Awamutu. There were about 150 present. Mr Chas. Bowden (chairman of the Town Board) presided. Proposals favoured arranging for a loan of £20,000 for water supply, sewerage and street improvement scheme. The building recently vacated by Mr H. Y. Collins, in Roache Street, was successfully moved to a section in Alexandra Street. The Te Awamutu Philharmonic Society have arranged for a plain, fancy and masquerade dance on 27th September, with arrangements in the hands of Messrs Moeller, Hume-Jones, Blennerhassett, Higgins, Linehan and Warburton (secretary). An elocutionary evening was held on Friday by the Mangapiko Debating Society. Some of those contributing were C. M. Alexander, W. McConkey, Mrs Jary, Mrs Gibson, Misses Alexander, Dodd and Tims. Mr S. H. West, secretary of Te Awamutu Football Club, has called a meeting to consider the formation of a Northern Union Club. At the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. sale on Saturday, 190 fat and store cattle and 171 dairy cows and heifers were yarded. Prices: Fat steers £8 Is, fat cows £5 5s to £7 15s, yearling heifers £2 13s to £2 18s, dairy cows £6 5s to £lO, weaner pigs 6s to £s, slips 12s 6d to 19s 6d.
