GIRL GUIDES

TE AIWAMUTU ACTIVITIES. Mirs Downes presided at the last, meeting of the Te Awamutu Girl Guides Committee, and also present were Mesdames E. Walter, Battson, A. L. Storey, A. C. Cruickshank, and Goodall (secretary), while apologies for absence were announced from Mesdames Rainey, Davis, Hiskens and Captain Mandeno. A telegram was read from Miss N. W/iltar, at Rotorua,, congratulating the Guides on the occasion of their Birthday Party. Arrangements were made for holding a Church Parade on June 21st, at the Presbyterian Church. The president reported that Mrs G. G. L. Taylor, of Cambridge, Commissioner fop the Waikato, .desired to visit Te Awamutu on a convenient date to meet the Rangers and Brownies on the occasion of the latters' flight up a grade.—lt was decided to held the function next Friday, and to cordially welcome the Commissioner. Mrs Downes mentioned that while in Hamillton she had inspected a. little house and garden made by the Guides and Brownies there, with all the equipment and furnishings, including even notices “Beware of the dog!” a cat, and goldfish. The honours had been 'awarded to Guides for the best garden, with second and third plac-ing-s to the Brownies. Mtrs Storey suggested that a patrol leader take charge on parades. Mrs Doiwnes thought that the Guides should provide an entry at the next Horticultural Show, and as many Brownies as possible compete in the class for best posy.—The idea was welcomed, and it was decided to inquire how many Guides will participate. An endeavour will be made also to promote a section especially for Guides and Brownies, embodying both the foregoing suggestions. Captain Mandeno’s report on the Guides showed that the company is in iKcess for a fortnight. The great civent since last meeting was the Birthday Party, held on May 2nd, when, in spite of inclement weather, the function proved very successful. Among the visitors present were t,wo Lone a Lone Ranger Captain, and Miss Ruth Cox, who is now a Lone Guide Lieutenant. Several service stars and badges were presented. It is desired to form a Ranger Company in Te Awamutu. It was mentioned that Miss Bayley, of the Tokanui Hospital staff, is a captain of a Lone Ranger Company, and is willing .to co-operate; in fact, with Lieut. Cox, she has been canvassing among the girls with tha idea of starting an active company. Already about twenty girls have signified their willingness to take part. These facts will 'be cojntnuniicalted to the Commissioner, who is expected to take the usual steps to form a company.
