RETURNED SOLDIERS

TE AWAMUTU BRANCH EXECUTIVE.

The new executive of the Te Awamutu branch of the R.S.A. met on Thursday evening at the Te Awamutu Courier office, the new president (Mr W. McGill) presiding. A large sheaf of correspondence from headquarters was dealt with. Returns show that during the past ten years membership had increased fourfold, and now stands at 26,828. The increase has been consistently steady over that period. Comment was made that this figure is conservative, as it is based on capitation fees actually paid to headquarters. In the case of the Te Awamutu branch, the return shows the membership as 181, whereas the financial year closed with just under 200.

Reports show that sales of Anzac stamps are progressing well. Orders for the first day df sale in Wellington amounted to £BOO. In Te Awamutu £2O was realised in the first week. A copy of remits for the Dominion conference was received, but consideration was deferred to a future meeting.

Mr H. T. Haselden was appointed delegate to attend the conference. Notification was received that a resolution from the annual meeting re interest rates was too late for consideration. However, remits were forwarded from other branches on similar lines.

A report was received from Morrinsville branch that delegates from Morrinsville, TeAroha and Matamata had met and discussed remits and other matters. The report was tabled ,foi consideration at a future meeting. ' An invitation was received from the 'commanding officer and officers of the Ist Battalion Waikato Regiment, to tlie president and members of the Te Awamutu R.S.A. to the presentation of new colours on Sunday, May 24t11. The secretary was instructed to insert an advertisement in the Couriei Further confidential business was also discussed. Arrangements are in hand for the annual reunion at a date to be decided on.
