TE RAU-A-MOA NOTES
CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS BALL. (Own Correspondent.) In spite of very unfavourable weather, a good crowd turned up to the children’s fancy dress ball, which is now an annual event. The hall had been prettily decorated with lycopodium and pink and pale blue streamers, making an effective background for the children as they paraded in the grand march. Music was supplied by Mr F. Beet (Pirongia), with extras by Miss Wynyard, Mr Logan and Mr Daysh. The school children, who had been trained by their teacher, Mr Logan, gave several items, including recitations and songs. Dances for the children were interspersed by dances for the grown-ups till supper time, after which the grown-ups took the floor.
Mr O. P. Dassler, as chairman of the School Committee, thanked those present for their attendance, and also all those who had helped in any way to make the function such a success. The school funds will benefit considerably from the entertainment. Following are the fancy costumes: — Bell Heron, Dutch girl; Joy Berntsen, shamrock; Margery Burns, gipsy; Pauline Berntsen, Mexican dancer; Dawn Russell, mid-Victorian; Betty Dassler, drummer boy; Marjorie Dassler, Highland lassie; Joyce Schwartfeger, granny; Kathleen Schwartfeger, witch; Yvonne Wynyard, BoPeep; Miriam Schwartfeger, Shirley Temple; Helena Heron, butterfly; Betty McMonagle, shepherdess; Harold Dassler, Robin Hood; Seton Tripe, jockey; Reggie Parkinson, tennis player; Leslie Dassler, court jester; Don Burns, Red Indian; Carl McMonagle, sailor; Billy Heron, member of the Mustard Club; George McMonagle, Red Indian. At the close of the evening swimming certificates were presented to Joy Berntsen, Pauline Berntsen, Bell Heron, Reggie Parkinson and Harold Dassler.
