At the annual provincial conference of the Women’s Division (South Auckland), at Te Awamutu yesterday, Mrs F. J. Ryburn, of Pateqangi, was re-eleqted president.
Mr and Mrs A. J. Shepherd are spending the school holidays in the south. Mr Shepherd is a delegate to tlie N.Z. Educational Institute, sitting at Wellington, and Mrs Shepherd is visiting relatives at Napier, where Mr Shepherd rejoins his wife after the conference.
Four Te Awamutu and district probationers at the Dental Clinic, Wellington, the Misses H. Empson, B. Ryburn, M. Hawkins and L. Ahier, returned home yesterday morning on holiday.
After spending a holiday touring the North Island with friends, Miss M. E. Mathews arrived in Te Awamutu yesterday on a visit to her brother, Mr W. C. Mathews, of Mahoe Street, before returning to Auckland.
Miss Collette Pollard has returned home after a year’s nursing experience at St. Mary’s, Otahuhu, and next month she joins the staff of the Waikato Hospital.
Mrs F. R. Moody, of Kihikihi, has returned home much' benefited by a five weeks’ holiday with friends in Auckland, where she has been staying for health reasons.
Mr I. A. James, superintendent of the State Collieries, after 254 years’ service with the Mines Department, will, for health reasons, vacate his position at the end of this month, prior to retiring on superannuation. In making this announcement on Wednesday, the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C. Webb, said that Mr James would be succeeded by Mr C. J. Strongman, inspector of coal mines for the West Coast inspection district.
