Messrs D. McL. Wallace, Ltd., report that the Sedan car referred to in our last issue has been puchased by Mrs L. A. Peterson, of Waihou.

A summer dance will be held in the Manawaru Hall on Wednesday evening. January 23rd. An enjoyable time is expected. Excellent music will be provided.

At a meeting of the provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union at Auckland on Tuesday a remit from the Waikato sub-provincial secretary, that Mr R. D. Duxfield be elected a life member of the Farmers’ Union was endorsed. It was decided to forward the remit to the Dominion executive with a view to having it adopted.

The Foresters’ Lodge has donated £7/7/- to the local branch of the Plunket Society. It is pleasing to see that our local lodges and societies are recognising in a practical way the good work of this very worthy institution.

A special meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council was held prior to the ordinary business meeting on Tuesday to fix the day for the statutory half-holiday for shops in the district. As no objection to the present day had been received it was decided that the present day (Saturday) should remain the statutory halfday.

At the quarterly meeting of the Matamata Methodist circuit last week which was attended by representatives from Putaruru and Matamata, it was unanimously decided to divide the circuit and make the Putaruru end a separate home missionary station. It was considered that the circuit as at present constituted was quite an unwieldly proposition. The Putaruru section will be in charge of a married home missionary.

A somewhat seedy-lookirig individual dropped in at a post office the other day and informed the postmaster that he was trying very hard to get employment and could not find it. The postmaster, out of the goodness of his heart, bustled round, and within five minutes had procured suitable work for the supplicant. However, the stranger lid not turn up on the job the'following morning, and being met later by the postmaster informed that official that when he woke up he felt too tired.

This week’s issue of the “New Zealand Sporting and Dramatic Review” is abundantly replete with illustrations of a highly attractive nature. In the centre pages are photographs of French and American stage favourites, and notable events'in Paris, artistically arranged to make a general appeal. The Wairarapa Racing Club’s Jubilee meeting at Tauherenikau occupies an interesting page of snopshots, while further pictures of the Auckland Trotting Club’s recent meeting will also make their appeal to enthusiasts.

The Commissioner of Taxes draws attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day’s issue that the due date of payment of the Income-tax is on Friday, the Bth day of February, 1924. Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before 29th February, 1924. The demands will be posted from. the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about Ist February, 1924. Demands must be presented with all payments, and if a demand has not been received the Commissioner should be communicated with.
