TE AROHA WEST

CONCERT AND DANCE (Own Correspondent.) Notwithstanding the very unfavorable weather the attendance at a concert held recently, and which had been organised by the young people of Te Aroha West in aid of the public library, was easily a record. The programme submitted was bright and original and was carried through without a hitch, thanks to the careful training and practice. The stage was nicely decorted, the nikau and tree ferns, with the shaded electric lights, producing a nice effect. A long programme of choruses, part songs, recitations and monologues, added to by a fine dramatic sketch, “The Bishop’s Candlesticks,” were all well received, every item being heartily applauded. The whole affair reflects the greatest credit upon the organisers, and the library will consequently benefit to the extent of over £lO- worth of new books, and the residents, like Oliver Twist, are asking for more of the same class of entertainment. The supper, which is not by any means the least important item on the programme, was plentifully supplied by the ladies in their usual dainty style, after which dancing was indulged in till 1.30, the music being supplied by Misses Frear, Peatson and Farmer.
