At a meeting of delegates of the Piako Rugby Union, held on Monday evening, the question of a monthly parade of all * players and Union officials was raised by the chairman, Mr M. Larney. His suggestion was that a Saturday should be set apart once a month for training, and that a capable officer be procured as instructor. The delegates were unani‘ mous in their appreciation of the motion, but it was thought that owing to the Union being in such a weakened condition through players volunteering, the parades would be sparsaly attended. Already fully twelve players, from two teams, are either at the front, or on their way there, while after last Saturday’s match five others filled in their papers and passed the medical test. Nearly all the other playing members of the Union are in the Territorials, National Reserve or Rifle Club, and the Union is this year giving part of its gate-money to Patriotic funds. Therefore, although the object mentioned is a good one, it can be seen that the Rugby Union is doing its utmost to assist at the time of the great crisis, and it would be almost impossible to follow the lead of various Sports Bodies in Auckland in respect to parades and military trainiug.
