Mrs. Batt, of Taihape,' whose efforts on behalf of patriotic funds has been both strenuous and' supremely successful, has received the following communications from the Matron of the Battenhall Y.A.D., Hospital in Worcester: — Battenhall V.A.D. Hospital, Worcester, December 9, 1917 Dear Mrs Batt, — i You are indeed a gbod friend to this Hospital! Thank you so very much for the gift from your son-in-law’s Red Cross box. I enclose the formal receipt for £3 3s fid. Will you tell him how very grateful we are. The money is especially welcome, for all provisions have gone up in price and it s getting more and more difficult to make both ends meet. I don’t think I have any particular hospital news to give you; we go on just the same. It is difficult to realise that we have been here nearly three years. We miss you very much, and wish you could come back and help us, not only in the actual work, but also in giving us an example of thoroughness and pluck. Please accept the wishes from us all for a blesed and peaceful New Year. —Yours very sincerely.

D. OGILYY. Again on December 31st, 1917, Mrs Batt received the following letter; —

Dear Mrs Batty— You are more than kind. I am delighted with your generous gift. We are going to have our Christmas Tree to-morrow, and I know the men will think a tremendous lot of it when they hear that some of the presents have been boughht wnth money from Now Zealand, so I must send you our most grateful thanks. The patients and the staff wull want you to know how grateful we all are. We send you our Now Year’s greetings. I trust that the New New Year will bring a lasting, happy, honourable peace. How little wo thought when we came to work hero that we should go on like this month after month, year after year. I must not write more, for I am busy with the festivities, and with letters and accounts. —Yours sincerely, D. OGILVY
