SALE OF TRAM TICKETS.

SHELTER DEPOT TO CLOSE. OFFICE IN NEW BUILDING. With the removal of the Cbristcliureh tramway offices to the new building in Cathedral Square, tram travellers are being called on to go farther out of their way to purchase concession tickets. After this week, these tickets will not be available at the Cathedral Baua.ro shelter, as hitherto, but only at the board's offices in the corner by the Government Buildings. For a long while past, the clerks in the Square ticket office have been ■Working under great disadvantages, for the accommodation there is very cramped. The board had to face the Question of providing better accommodation, and, rather than take any .further space from the public in Cathedral Square, it decided to locate the ticket-selling depot in the new tramway offices, where a special entrance is provided. When the central depot in Cathedral Square is closed, the inspectors' • office is to be removed from the northern to the southern end of the shelter, and the loom at the northern end, while remaining the property of the Tramway Board, will be handed over to the conirol of the Christchurch City Council for the extension of the parcels office and women's convenience. The new inspectors' room at the south end of the shelter will be raised, and walled with clear glass, so that an. official inside will be able to keep an eye on traffic in Cathedral Square. Entry to this new room will be by a doorway in the end of the shelter. The •lot telephone at-present standing by the corner is to be moved farther westward, and the seat running round the tree growing nearby will be removed. A new seat will be provided along the Wall at the end of the shelter. In all of these improvements, the Tramway Board is working in co-opera-tion with the City Council.
