The Hon. O. Samuel, M.L.C., and Mrs Samuel arrived in Christchureh from Wellington this morning. The Hon. J. MacGregor, M.L.C., and the Hon. J. T. Paul, M.L.C., were amongst the passengers from Wellington by the ferry steamer Manuka to-day. Captain L. M. Isitt, R.A.F., who is to take over, on November 15, the duties of Military Equipment and Instructional Officer, New Zealand Air Service, arrived from Wellington to-day. Captain C. A. Colonna will leave Christchureh for Sydney this evening. He expects to return early in December, with Mrs Colonna and Miss Vittoria Colonna, who are in Australia at present. Several members of Parliament were amongst the passengers from Wellington by the ferry steamer Manuka to-day. They were Colonel the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes and Messrs L. M. Isitt, H. G. Ell, J. McCoinbs, G. Wittv, C. E. Statliam. A. S. Malcolm, W. J. Dickie, J. Craigie, J. M. Dickson, T. K. Sidey, G. J. Anderson and E. P. Lee. A Press Association telegram from New Plymouth states that Mr C. H. Burgess recently retired from the mayoralty of that borough after four years' service. Yesterday afternoon Mr and Mrs Burgess were the guests of the citizens at a garden party, at which they were presented with a valuable silver tea and coffee service. Members of the Borough Council had previously presented the retiring Mayor with an illuminated address appreciative of the services Tendered to the community by him and the Mayoress. Major R. E. Goddard, who has been appointed by the Department of Overseas Trade (Development and Intelligence) London, and the Association of British Motor and Allied Manufactures, Ltd., to investigate the Australasian and Far Eastern markets for the sale of British motor* vehiclesy»their parts and accessories, is to arrive in Christehurch ion Saturday. Major Goddard has made a special study of overseas commerce, with regard to which he has a wide and varied experience, especially in connection with the motor industry.
