The National Party Conference at Bendigo passed a resolution jn favour of the initiative and referendum being given effect to, except when it affects a question of war. It also resolved that immediate action be taken to secure preferential voting for the Senate. RETURNED SOLDIERS' BILL. (Rec. Sept. 5, 11.30) SYDNEY. Sept. 5. The Assembly read a first time the Beturned Solders' and Sailors' Employment Bill, which provides preference for them in all employment and reinstatement in the positions they held before enlistment. A MINISTERIAL CHANGE. (Bee. Sept. 5, 11.30) MELBOURNE. Sept. 5. It is officially stated that Captain Bruce, who has just returngd from the war, will succeed the Hon. E. D. Millen as Minister of Repatriation.
