PRIVATE P. C. WEBB, M.P.

X Ml » 11 X l_i X • V. TT Mial • To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —Please allow me space in yonr valuable paper to give vent to my feelings on the doings of P. C. Webb, member of Parliament. This man has been practically side-stepping the military authorities for some months. In this evening’s Sus be is credited with saying he is not a conscientious objector. Yet he will not don a uniform. We all know why. This is the man who represents the people of the West Coast, and I want to ask this right now: What sort of sports are there on the Coast who will try and release him from the authorities? We may expect trouble (but I don’t think so) from some of his admirers over there, but I am of the same opinion as many others here —why should the married men go and let an individual like this man (with no encumbrances whatever) stand and endeavour to ignore the military authorities? I say this Webb has defied the authorities, or he woudn’t be in the position he is in. Others are - serving various terms of imprisonment for the same offence, and, member of Parliament or not, treat them all the same. I shouldn’t care to see every man in New Zealand of the some opinion as Webb, or where would we all be? I will leavfrit to your readers to guess. He says he is of more use to the country than to the nation. Yes—in causing trouble.—l am, etc., RETURNED SOLDIER. 13/3/18.
