REWARDS FOR BRAVERY. The Royal Humane Society met yesterday, ' Mr F. ('.. B. Bishop (secretary) presiding. ; It was decided to place on record an t appreciation of the services rendered to the society by the late president, Colonel Slater. On the motion of the Rev. Eliot Chambers , Mr R. ('.. Bishop was elected to the vacancy. Mr R. C. Bishop then took the chair. On the suggestion of Mr .1. A. Frostick, i it was decided to make arrangements for . bringing the aims and objects of the society I more prominently before the public. The 1 ! matter of getting Government recognition : was left to Mr Frostick. The first case to come under notice was , that of Ivor Wilson Scott, aged 12? years, who rescued Thomas Walsh (aged 39) and Ethel Walsh (aged 14) from drowning at Silverstream, near Mosgiel, on- January 14, 1 1917. It was decided to award a silver ! medal to the boy. In the case of Darrel Leslie, aged 2fiJ, who ■ rescued Frances Kllen Gilbert (aged 27) 1 from drowning at Porirua, on August 24, ■ it was resolved to issue a bronze" medal. ; The next case was that of Sergeant-Major Francis Charles Holmes (aged ,'iO), who had saved David James Lake (aged 2ft) from I bleeding to death at Wellington on June 20, • 1917. It was decided that a bronze medal , would fit the case. ' It was decided to award a certificate in ' the case of William Royal (aged 10) for , rescuing Howard Allen (aged 7) from , drowning at St. Helier's, Auckland, on May 7, 1917, in a squally sea. > In the case of Alfred Richard Huggins (aged 34), who had rescued Robert Rae (aged 4a) from drowning in the Auckland Harbour, Rae having fallen from a ferry - ..teanier on a dark night, it was resolved , to award the rescuer a silver medal. Donald Mclntyrc Sea ton (aged 18), who i had -saved Kathleen McKenzie (aged 10) - from drowning in the Duller River, Westport, on May 0, 1917, was awarded a ccrti- ' ficatc.
