VICTORIA LEAGUE.

9 OVERSEAS FORCES RECEPTION. The following extract from the Vic- , toria League Overseas Forces Eeception Committee's report is forwarded by the hon. secretary of the Canterbury branch (Mrs Carey Hill) with the com- . ment that "it goes to prove that everyone in England is neither so lax nor indifferent as Mr W. G. Jamieson would have us believe. The report is dated April 30, 1917: "The committee during the past 13 months have dealt with 107,.'i58 men on leave, meeting them at the stations, directing them to their destination, escorting them to pay offices, and conveying them to the various clubs assigned for their quarters. The members of the committee now meet troops at 10 London main railway stations.' The voluntary workers number 70, and they have placed their services at the disposal of the committee, and performed their duties without fail, at all hours of the day or night, in all varieties of weather anil atmosphere. In addition to men on leave, the committee now deals with overseas convalescents passing through London, who require advice and guidance, and have rendered assistance to large bodies of men accidentally detained in London, whom they have met and escorted to clubs and other suitable places.'' "We lived in a strange land, yet were not strangers; far from our homes we found a home, in England."
