COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIMASRI. The monthly mcetiug of the Waimairi County Council was held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman), T. D- Boag, W. Nicholls, S. Bullock, W. P. Spencer, G. E. Curry, and B. W. Hawke. A petition was received from residents in Fendalton complaining that the Jackson's Road drainage system was inefficient. The matter was referred to Mr Bullock and the engineer for a report. The chairman moved that the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board should be written to regarding the notification to the council of infectious diseases cases that Occur in the countyMr. Bullock seconded the motion, which was carried. The District. Health Officer wrote, in reference to an application to install septic tanks in Scotston, advising the council not to grant the application, as it was not in accordance with the council's by-laws. It was decided to request the Health Inspectors to furnish a report on the septic tanks in the district. Mr. J. W. Butt wrote in reference to the blocking up of the lane to the Waimakariri River at the Empire Bridge. The matter was referred to Cr. Spencer and the county engineer, to report at the next meeting. The Mackenzie County Council forwarded its proposal re tax on motorcar tyres. After considerable discussion it was decided to receive the letter. The following accounts were passed for payment:—General Account, £2890 0/11; Loan Account, £B3O LI/2. A letter was received from the Drainage Board, stating that the sand from the Canal Reserve drain was blocking up the river Styx. The letter gave the cost of putting in sand boxes, as follows: —One third of the rural rating area to the Waimairi County Council, and two-tftirds to' the Avon rating area. The council protested against any further charge than the third made. The council considered the question of carting shingle from the gravel pit iu the Wairarapa riding. Cr. Boag said that, such carting injured the roads in the riding, and he thought it only fair that thc.other ridings should make good some of the damage done. It was decided to leave the matter to the Works Committee. Mr W. J. Walter wrote asking permission to add to the public hall, aud it was decided to ask Mr Walter to call a public, meeting to elect three residents to act iu conjunction with the two county members in the management of the hall.
