RAKAIA.
From Our Oion Correspondent. Prices at the Rakaia stock sale on Monday were much below those of last sale-day. Sales reported were:150 lambs at 18/4, 14 at 25/-, 76 at 25/-, and 359 ewes at. 01/-. Mr R. Breach, of Rakaia, was very successful at the Methven Flower Show in securing prizes, especially in dahlias. Mr F. Saunders, of Rakaia, has been able to raise a very fine flower by crossing the amaryllis bella donna with the brunsbigia. The new variety, at present unnamed, contains various shades of pink, and has been highly praised by several Christchurch horticultural experts, wdio have seen the blooms. Mr Saunders has also a tigridia in carmine, a unique colour for this flower. The Annual Harvest Festival in connection with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was held on Sunday. There was a very large attendance at the evening service. The church was very prettily decorated with flowers and greenery, and there was a fine collection of fruits and vegetables. The gift goods will be forwarded for the benefit, of the Christchurch Presbyterian Orphanage. Miss T. Breading, L of the Mead, has received word that her brother, Gunner Samuel Breading, who was wounded in the chest, on February 15, aud admitted to the N.Z. Hospital, Brockenhurst, on February 26, has now been removed from the dangerously ill list. Gunner Breading in an old boy of the Rakaia School, and, previous to enlistment, worked a farm at the Mead. He went with the Bth Reinforcement to Egypt, and with the first New Zealanders to France. He has two brothers about, to go into camp.
