MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TODAY'S CASES. Mr T. A. B. Bailey presided at this morning's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. DRUNKENNESS. Two first offenders were fined 5/-, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. William Welsh was convicted and discharged for drunkenness and fined 10/- for a breach of a prohibition order. Mary Main was convicted and discharged for a breach of a prohibition order. For entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, Charles William Eishcr was fined 20/-. UNLICENSED LAND AGENT. .lames Thomas Main was charged with having carried on the business of

a land agent at Sydenham without a license. He did not appear, and was fined £5 and costs. BETTING ALLEGED. John Archer, for whom Mr Donnelly appeared, was charged that, being a bookmaker, he did make a bet in licensed premises—the Gladstone Hotel. There were two further charges of having made beta with Herbert James Le Sueur. j On Mr Donnelly's application an adjournment was granted till March 21. PRAYERS IN THE BOX. Annie MeCormaek, alias Mario Sansen, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond. Accused was an old woman, shabbily dressed, hatlcss, and decrepit. She immediately proceeded to make herself comfortable by sitting down in the dock. The attendant con' stable persuaded her to rise, but a moment later she disappeared from sight altogether, having either knelt on sat on the. floor of the dock. When tin 1 con stable again managed to induce Iter to rise she bowed her head on her hand and commenced in loud tones -o pray. Throughout the subsequent proceeding* connected with the case she prayed with the utmost fervour, ami her utterances quite drowned the. statement of the senior sergeant to the Reach, Finally, after fruitless efforts had been made to silence the accused, she was remanded for a week for medical observation. RANGIORA. Messrs F. Don-ell and J. T. Withers, J.IVs, presided. For riding cycles at night; without lights, R. Davies, and W. Watson were fined 10/- and costs. For failing to register, F. Morris, 1,. If. Stanton, C. D. Tollatt, and A. E. (Mark were convicted and discharged. For failing to attend drill, ,1. E. Feather and R. A. Feather (Mr van Asch) were fined 10/- and costs. R. I'etrie was fined 5/- and costs. In the civil casoV. Johnston (Mr van Asch) v. J. Ilollfnd, judgment was given by default for £1 'it/-, and 6/costs.
