PERSONALS.

The Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., returned from Wellington yesterday. Mr T. J. Mcllwraith Ims been appointed overseer to the Selwyn Plantation Board. The Rev,..J. J. Bates, of St. John's Church, Lyttelton, arrived from the north yesterday. The Rev. 0. A. Gray, Invereargill, and the Rev. S. W. Curry, Dunedin, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington to-day. Mr Talbot and Mr W. Nosworthy, M.P. 's, were among the Maori's passengers this morning. Mr Orton Bradley, of Charteris Bay, has been re-elected to the position of chairman of the Mount Herbert County Council. Mr 11. Maxwell, registrar of births, marriages and deaths fit Dunedin, a position which lie has occupied for the past 15 years, will retire on superannuation at the end of this month. Messrs E. E. Lelievre (Akaroa), D. G. Wright (Windermere), C. A. Piper (Wellington), A. K. Harris (Dunedin), W. J. Duncan (Wellington), A. G. Hanson (Wellington), and W. M. Simpson (Dunedin) are at Coker's. The following non-commissioned officers have been appointed second lieu- ! tenants on probation at Trentham Camp:—S.M. G. P. Chapman, 20th N.Z.P.A.; S.M. IT. Mortenson, 23rd N.Z.F.A.; Sergt. J. W. Crighton, 20th N.Z.F.A. Captain J. L. Conlan, of the 13th (North Canterbury and Westland) Regiment, of Territorials, has been promoted to be major. Major Conlan is now the military representative at the sittings of the Military Service Board for the Aueklaud district. Mr F Marsh, late manager of the Christchurch Opera House, was met at the Wellington Hotel last evening by his friends and vaudeville artists, and made the recipient, of a presentation. Several members of the vaudeville profession expressed regret at Mr Marsh 's retirement, and eulogised his qualities as a manager. At the Anglican Church at Runanga on Sunday, the Rev. J. Farnell preached his farewell sermon, prior to leaving for Trentham as a lieutenant in the Expeditionary Forces. The congregation- presented him with a luminous wristlet, watch, wallet, and military cane. The recipient suitably responded, and expressed regret at the circumstances necessitating the severing of his connection with Runanga.
