VISIT OF J. J. VIRGO. Mr ,1. J. Virgo, the National Field Secretary for Great Britain of the. Young Men's Christian Association, who was accorded a civic reception by the Mayor yesterday, is a man who, stands out as a leader, perhaps, more prominently than any other in the Young Men's Christian Association of the Empire. No is not a stranger to these parts, as he was formerly secretary to the Adelaide and Sydney Young Men's Christian Associations, and also j for a time filled the office of National j Secretary of Australasia. His work in | Australia attracted notice in London, | and five years ago came a call to the metropolis, where he was requested to organise the work of the London Central Association. He is now engaged iu ! a tour of the British Empire, with the I purpose of unifying the work of the association in the direction of a general Empire policy, m-'ving ultimately 1o the appointment of an Imperial Council. The Australasian Association are meeting in conference in Sydney, anil an appointment of an Imperial Council will be one of the principal matters under discussion. Mr Virgo's programme at the conclusion of the Australian tour will take him to ludia, where he will attend a conference of genera! secre-! taries and students. He will speak in His Majesty's Theatre on Sunday next at 8.15 p.m. On Monday next he will he entertained by the New Zealand Club at luncheon, and at •'! o'clock on .Monday afternoon he will address a women's meeting in the Y.M.C.A. nail on "Women's Work in the Great War."
