MALVERN COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the monthly meeting of the Malvern County Council, held on Tuesday, tenders for water-race cleaning were accepted from Messrs Moyles, Watson, Vickery, March, Adkins and Powell, Charles Brown, and J. Painter. It was decided to alternate the main races every 48 hours, commencing on Friday, October 6, on the Darfield side, for the purpose of cleaning, for which one month will be allowed. The application of Mr J. Laffey for the position of poundkeeper and roadman at Coalgate was accepted. The balance-sheet for the year ended March ol was passed and ordered to be published. A letter wa9 received from the treasury, stating that the necessary consent to the accepting of a loan was gazetted.
It was decided to draw the attention of the Kaihvay Department to the manner in which the crossing signals had been put in and the unsuitable positions in which many of them had been placed. The Public Works Department wrote with reference to two light bridges over
the Hawkins and Wai-a-Niwa-Niwa Rivers. It was decided to inform the department that the council cannot see its way to assist, as they would be of very little benefit to the ratepayers. It was resolved to sue all owners of unregistered dogs after October 30.
