BRITISH POSITION IMPROVED. FIGHTING AT EAUCOURT L'ABBAYE. ACTIVITY IN THE AIR. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, October 3. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—Severe fighting took place in and about Eaucourt l'Abbaye, where the enemy regained a footing in various buildings. We improved our position to the south-west of Gueudecourt and eastward and northward of Courcelette. Our aeroplanes bombed several points of military importance, and many enemy machines were brought down.
