WOUNDED SOLDIERS.

FETE AT "CHATMOSS." This afternoon an elaborate garden fete was held at '' Chatmoss,'' 441 Madras Street, being organised and arranged by Mrs' Warren. For some considerable time past Mrs Warren has been energetically engaged in preparations for the event, and in enlisting the help and co-operation of her friends, in order to make the affair as successful as possible. All the proceeds will be" devoted to the Patriotic Wounded Soldiers ' Fund. The lawn at the side of the house was a mass of tents, containing goods of all kinds, which were offered for sates by persuasive sales ladies. A sheep, donated to Mrs Warren, was disposed of on the guessing principal. Other things found owners in the same way. A number of small girls—little Misses Davison, Ditfort, and Forsyth—-sold flowers and sweets about the grounds. An "art gallery" occupied a gailystriped tent, and here, indeed, were some artistic treasures. Something that bore the imposing title of "Fallen Pillars of Greece" revealed itself as a couple of tallow candles, lying prone oa a dish. " The Heart that Never Loved '' was a cabbage-centre. "The Thin Bed Line" was a fine line drawn in red ink on a sheet of white paper. There wera over 40 exhibits in the "gallery/* which was quite a feature of the fete. A couple of fortune-tellers' tents were also on the grounds, and if anyone yearned to "splash" on a joy ride, a waiting chauffeur was quite ready', t« take his instructions. A gramophone, and members of the C.Y.C. Band, supplied music, and to-night, when the fete will be continued, Damian's harp and violin orchestra willl do their share in this direction. The Scottish pipers and dancers were also in attendance.
