SUMNER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

There were present at last night's meeting of the Sumner Borough Council the Mayor (Mr G. W. C. Smithson) and Crs. Boulton, Brewer, L. K. L. Wood, Stuart, Eankin, and Hon. J. Barr. The Works Committee reported that the foundations for the crushing plant should be put down near the cutting on the Main Road. The matter of re-metalling the road should be considered when the estimates for the current year were being prepared. % They suggested that an extra 500 feet of hose should be obtained for the brigade. The Finance Committee recommended that no action should be. taken in the matter of the request of the Spreydon Borough Council in re protesting against contributing to the upkeep of the Christchurch Domain. The town clerk.' reported that since April 1 building permits to the value of £1435 had been issued. He also made known the fact that during the month of April various persons took 180 hot salt-water baths. The secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand wrote stating that the biennial conference would be held in July next. It was decided to appoint a gas clerk to assist with the work in connection with the lighting department and to look after the showroom. The secretary of the Christchurch Domain Board wrote, intimating that the amount apportioned to the Council in connection with the upkeep of the Christchurch Domain was £27. He suggested that the Sumner Council should join with Lyttelton in order to secure representation on the Board. The Finance Committee reported that the credit balance was £lll7 12/5. Accounts amounting to £7o' 14/1 were passed for payment.
