YOUR NEW NUMBER
REGISTERING THE CAR NOW IS THE TIME TO APPLY The motor registration authorities at the Wellesley Street Post Office remind Auckland motorists that now is the time to procure new number-plates. Up to th© present only_3,ooo motor vehicle owners of a district total of 25,000 have re-registered. They have until th© end of May to make application, and apparently the majority are putting off th© duty until the last moment. This makes for needless congestion at th© office, and th© staff would appreciate early application. No vehicles will be allowed by the Police Department to display 1929-30 plates, after May . 31. In addition to the usual information describing details of cars and trucks required under the Motor Vehicles Registration Act, owners are this year called upon by the new Transport Department to furnish figures representing th© mileage done by the car or truck for the year ended April 30. Further, th© department asks for the total mileage the vehicle has covered sine© it was put on the road. Another item required is the month and year th© machine was put on the road in New Zealand.
Although the specific purpose of the requests are not stated, it is presumed that the authorities wish to gain some idea of the extent to which motor vehicles are using the roads. The information is not required in th© case of motor-cycles.
