BOOKIE “PAYS OUT"

FOURTH HEAVY FINE RECOGNISED BIG BETTOR “One of the recognised big bettors of the city,” was the description applied by Detective-Sergeant Kelly to Harry Saunders, who received his fourth heavy fine for bookmaking when he appeared in the Police Court this afternoon. Saunders, aged 31, and described as a tailor and clerk, was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., with using premises at 7A Gordon Terrace, Ponsonby, as a common gaming-house. A plea of guilty was entered. Mr. Kelly said Detectives McHugh and Nalder had taken several bets. Mr. Kelly mentioned to Mr. Hunt that Saunders had been heavily fined on three occasions previously, the penalties being £75, £IOO, and £IOO. Mr. Hunt fined Saunders £IOO.
