BISHOP CLEARY’S WORK

SOCIETY' S APPRECIATION FORMER PRESIDENT Appreciation of the work done by the late Bishop Cleary, a former president of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, was expressed at the monthly meeting held yesterday. His services were recognised as having been most valuable. No further action is to be taken in the Elsie Walker case pending the appointment of a new Minister of J ustiee. Tli6 society agreed to co-operate with others in giving a farewell to the Lady Alice Fergusson. A committee was appointed to consider the be*st method. Reports presented showed that T* cases were dealt with last month, six were sent to the solicitor and 10 old cases were dealt with. There were 303 office interviews and the inspector paid 59 visits. FAREWELL PARTIES

TWO PRESENTATIONS HAMILTON FUNCTIONS Miss E. Neckar, headmistress of the Waikato Diocesan School, and formerly vice-president of the Auckland Diocesan School, was entertained at a very jolly party by her Auckland expupils on Friday afternoon. The hostess was Miss Ethel Hammond, and the party was held at her home in Clarence Street. Mrs. J. H. Hammond was in a black lace gown. Miss Ethel Hammond wore a flowered blue georgette frock. Miss Neckar’s charming frock was in beige crepe de chine patterned in brown. An amusing competition was won by Mrs. L. Swales. At the conclusion of the afternoon, Miss Hammond asked Miss Neckar to accept a handsome leather handbag. Those present were: Miss E. Neckar, Mrs. F. Lintot (Auckland), Mrs. A. English, Mrs. W. N. Young. On Thursday evening Mrs. Fred Booth, who leaves Hamilton shortly for Melbourne, was given a farewell party at the home of Mrs. D. Andrews, by the members of the Whitiora Bridge Club. Mrs. Andrews received her guests In a gown of floral panne velvet. Mrs. Booth’s handsome frock was of flower patterned georgette. The evening passed brightly in progressive bridge and music. Mrs. Cullinane received the bridge prize. Later, after supper, Mr. Andrews presented Mrs. Booth with an attractive toilet outfit, and voiced the regrets of her many friends, that she was leaving Hamilton. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. F. PRESENTATION

FAREWELL TO CROQUET CLUB MEMBER A farewell function took place on the To Awarautu Croquet Club’s lawns, when Mrs. J. Layne was presented with a beautiful brass rosebowl, prior to her departure for Hamilton. In making the presentation. the club s president, Mrs. H. de D. Peake expressed regret at Mrs. Layne's de-’ parture. Several competitions were held Mrs Downes and Mrs. Xobis being the’prin-' cipal winners.

REUNION PARTY

CARDS, COMPETITIONS AND MUSIC M,r. and Mrs. ,T. Gardiner entertained a number of friends at a pleasant ntie reunion party, a very jolly tune being spent in progressive 500, competitions, and musical items. Mrs Gardiner was assisted by her sister, Mrs. Harrison, Winners of 500 were as follow: Purd ! e and Mr. Wright: consedation prizes, Mrs. A. Clow and Mr ' Vr ™ T Competition winners were Miss Philpot. Mrs. J. IT. Wright Mr Gnffln, and Mr. Wright. _t.ongs were given by Messrs. J. H. anri Mr - S. Carson. Miss M. vv.tight gave two pianoforte solos. Wright, black georgette w re ,6 L V rs ’ A ' Clow ' black lace with gold relief: Mrs. Carson, navy satin with posy to tone; Mrs. Purdief navy georgette relieved with green; Miss Philover cre pe de chine; Miss M. \\ right, mauve crepe de chine, gold lace; Miss Tarrant, blue taffeta, and silver lace.
