Mrs. J. 11. Pitt has gone to Christchurch on a visit. Miss 13. A. Campbell has returned from Wellington. # * * Mr. and Mrs. Blake, of Hawera, are staying at tlvo Star Hotel. Miss P. Hay, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. lx Hay, in Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Cooper, of Gisborne, are at the Central Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Reid, of Hamilton, are guests at the Hotel Cargen. Mrs. Griffiths, of Auckland, is visiting Mrs. R. Reynolds, in Cambridge. Mrs. Cedric A. Herman, of Corunna Avenue, Parnell, is at present in Wellington. A Dunedin visitor, Miss W. Johnston, has left for Helensville in continuance of her holiday. Miss Beach Hardie-Neil has gone to Dunedin. She will be the guest of Mrs. Peter Aitken. Mr. and Mrs. G. Wansbone, of Dargaville, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Walker, of Rotorua, are among the guests at the Royal Hotel. WAIKATO NOTES Mrs. M. McGregor and Miss R. Postgate, of Hamilton, intends staying in Christchurch for some months. Mrs. D. McNicol has returned to Hamilton from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Ruth Whyte, of Hamilton, is visiting friends in Palmerston North. Mrs. E. If. O’Meara, of Hamilton, leaves today for Hanmer, where she will probably be some weeks. Miss C. Quin, of Eltham, is the guest of Mrs. J. O’Sullivan, in Te Awam utu. * * * FAREWELL SOCIAL Mr. and Mrs. D„ T. Davies, who are among the original 23 soldier settlers on Kereone, and who are shortly leaving the district, were given a very jolly farewell v social evening at the Kereone Hall recently. During the evening Mr. A. Topham, on behalf of the settlers, asked Mrs. Davies to accept a fruit bowl, and Mr. Davies a cigarette case. Many spoke with regret about their departure from the district, but wished them all good luck in their new home. BRIDGE PARTY AT CLUB At the Lyceum Club on Friday evening, Mrs. E. Walders gave a very bright “gift” bridge party for Miss E. Seal, who is shortly to be married. Mrs. Walders received the guests wearing a frock of blue lace. Miss Seal was wearing a georgette frock, patterned in cherry tones. The guests played progressive bridge, Mrs. Reeves being the prizewinner. TENNIS DANCE The annual dance of the Gordonton Tennis Club on Thursday evening was a very jolly affair. The hall was crowded with dancers, and the stage was arranged as a card-room for the nondancers. Hildreth’s orchestra played very good music. Among those present were:—Mrs. E. Faville, Mrs. T. BRIDGE EVENING FOR GUIDES On Saturday evening the executive of the Girl Guides’ Committee arranged a very pleasant bridge evening at Miss Evelyn Scherer’s studio. The prize-winners were Miss C. GOLDEN WEDDING

QUIET CELEBRATION KLUNER—CLAY The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Kluner, who were married in Gympie, Queensland, Australia, on December 6, 1879, was quietly celebrated at their residence on Friday evening. They were the recipients of a purse of sovereigns from the family. Mrs. Kluner was the daughter of Mr. George Clay, botanist, Gympie, formerly of England. Mr. Kluner was the youngest son of Mr. Carl Kluner, an early settler of Australia.
