AUSTRALIAN OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP SHINES IN SHORT PLAY (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) ADELAIDE, Thursday. In the second round of the Australian open golf championship at Seaton today Sloan Morpeth (New Zealand) strengthened his position by going round in 78, making his aggregate score for the first two rounds 151. He played round today with Bolger, a New South Wales professional. Morpeth’s driving was long and generally straight, but at times erratic. The wind was troublesome. He was repeatedly saved by his brilliant short Play. The New Zealand professionals Shaw and Mclntosh took 85 and 84 respectively, making their aggregate scores for the two rounds 169 and 165. E. D. Bissett’s total is 152. He was round today in 78. Ivo Whitton took 78, his total being 153. Eyre’s total is also 153. L. Nettlefold took SO, and his score for the two rounds is 155. Corry (Hew South Wales), who tied with Morpeth yesterday with 73, today took 82. Jupp retired owing to a family bereavement. Rufus Stewart, who is out of touch, took 84. His aggregate is now 161, and he has practically lost his chance.
