MRS. ARTHUR STAN DISH The death is announced Horn Nov Plymouth of Mrs. Arthur Standisli. aged 82, widow of the first Mayor of the town, and an early pioneer. Born in Lincolnshire in 1847. she came to New Plymouth with her father. th< Rev. 11. H. Brown, in 1859. On the outbreak of the Maori War she went with her parents to Nelson, where they stayed until it was thought safe to return. In 18G8 she married Mr. Arthur Standisli. then a membe of the Provincial Government and Crown Solicitor. From 1874 to 3 875 he was Secretary for Lands, and in 1877 was Deputy-Superintendent of the province. He was elected first Mayor of the town when it was declared a borough. He died in 1915. Mrs. Standish leaves four sons and two daughters.
