THRIFT THE OBJECT
P.O. SAVINGS BANK SYSTEM
NO CHEQUES TO BE USED Because It would mean a charge in the whole of the present system, the Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, has declined a request that Post Office Savings Bank accounts be operated by cheque. Iu reply to a deputation from the Auckland Provincial District Conference of Friendly Societies, Mr. Donald said that the object of the bank was to encourage thrift and not to provide easy facilities for the withdrawal of money. If a change were made the Post Office Savings Bank would immediately come iuto competition with commercial banks and the expenses of management would increase considerably.
