SMART RUN HOME

MOTOR-SHIP REACHES SOUTHAMPTON RANGiTIKI 33-DAY TRIP An exceptionally fast passage from Wellington to. Southampton has been made by the New Zealand Shipping i'ompauy’s new motor-ship Rangitiki. According to cable advice the liner arrived at Southampton on June 13. The Rangitiki sailed from Wellington on May 11; thus the vessel took 33 days to travel 11,289 nautical miles. Although several vessels have made a faster trip to New Zealand from Southampton, this trip of the Rangitiki is one of the best yet made homeward by any vessel leaving New Zealand. The fastest passage, however, yet recorded is held by the Union Company’s ferry steamer W’ahine. when she was sent Home at the beginning of the late war. The Waliine took just over 21 days for the passage. When the Rangitiki left Wellington she carried a record number of passengers, besides mails and a large cargo of New Zealand products.
