REQUEST TO HARBOUR BOARD
A letter from the City Council asking if the board would be prepared to vest the triangular piece of land (not yet reclaimed) between the railway line and the waterfront road, in the Auckland City Council for use as a reserve, the area to be laid down in grass and shrubs and the cost to be borne by the City Council, was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. The erection of shelter sheds for the convenience of ferry passengers at Bayswater during wet weather was suggested in a letter from the Takapuna Borough Council. The board decided to consider the request at its board-in-committee meeting next Tuesday. The cash receipts for the Waitemata Harbour for May were £34,106, au iucrease of £216 ou the figures for May, 1925. The return for the eight months were £263,509, an increase of £6,656 on the figures for the corresponding figure last year. The receipts from the Manukau Harbour totalled £6OS for May, a decrease of £IS. The decrease over the eight mouths was £450. Authority for the raising of £50,000 for harbour works was received from the Local Government Loans Board. The amount is the 10th issue of the 1924 loan of £1,000,000, of which £750,000 was for harbour works and £250,000 for redemption purposes.
Terms proposed by the board hi granting permission to the Auckland City Council to discharge wash-water from the filers at Nihotupu and Huia into Little Muddy Creek, which runs into the Manukau Harbour, were discussed. Permission was granted 011 the recommendation of the Manukau Harbour Committee, following a visit to Nihotupu and Huia. Nine cond : - tions were attached and the council was asked to consider some method of rough filtration to remove the worst of the deposit before discharge.
