RENEWALS GRANTED ROTORUA AND WAITOMO (From Our Own Correspondent} ROTORUA, Tuesday. | The Rotorua Licensing Committee held its annual meeting on Monday, j Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M.. presiding. Fifteen applications were dealt with. Sergeant Hogan represented the police and offered no objection to any of the applications. Licences were granted as follow: Grand Hotel, Rotorua, to E. E. Howey; Geyser Hotel, Rotorua, to W. Galbraith; Palace Hotel, Rotorua, to J. A. Lee; Rangitaiki Hotel, to H. Ward; Lake House. Oliinemutu, to P. T. Pederson; Tokait u Hotel, to Mrs. Jones; Geyser JTotei, Nairikei, to Mrs. Chinton; Spa Hotel. Taupo, to H. Newdick; Lake House, Taupo, to J. P. Sheehan; Hot Springs, Okoroiri, to N. M. Higginson; Oxford Hotel, Tirau, to J. Keane; Putaruru Hotel, to A. C. Leggatt; Terraces Hotel, Taupo, to IT. Barns, Waiotapu Hotel, to N. H. Hickey. Tho licences in connection with the hotels at Rangitaika, Geyser (Wairakei), Tokaanu (Taupo), and Waiotapu were granted with the proviso that moro accommodation be provided for travellers. The chairman on behaf of the committee congratulated the licensees on the satisfactory manner they conducted the hotels. WAITOMO TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. * The Waitomo Licensing Bench held its annual meeting at Te Awqjnutu on Monday. In the absence of Mr. Wyvern 'Wilson, S.M., chairman of the Bench, Mr. G. A. Empson presided. Renewals of licences were granted as follow: —Matthew W. Muir, Te Awaniutu Hotel; Reg. G. Hodges, Commercial Hotel, Te Awamutu; and John Dunleavy, Alpha Hotel, TCihikihi. In respect to the latter hotel, it was pointed out that certain repairs and improvements desired by the police and health officer were now in pro- & A transfer of the licence of the Star Hotel, Kihikihi, from D. W. Osborne to J. W. Hopper, was agreed to. Inspector Eccles congratulated the licensees on the conduct of their hotes during the past 12 months. The chairman said it was very pleasing to hear such a remark coming from the" inspector of poli.ee. Mr. Preston, on behalf of the licensees, acknowledged the compliment, assuring the Bench of the wish of the hotelkeepers to aid the police and health officers and to carry out the law in all respects. LICENSEES CONGRATULATED WELL CONDUCTED HOTELS (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Marsden Licensing Committee was held in Whangarel yesterday. Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., presided. Inspector Harvey represented the police. Applications were dealt with as follow: — Renewals: Settlers’ Hotel, Whangarei, to L. E. Haines; Whangarei Hotel, to Fred. R. Morrison; Commercial Hotel, Whangarei, to Cyril R. Powell; Mangawai Hotel, 40 H. C. Subritsky; Kamo Hotel, permanent transfer from 17. Swann to John Morrins; a new licence was granted at Parua Bay to Ernest Davau, on the understanding that the requirements of the Public Health Department regarding a better water supply be provided; the Maungaturoto Hotel was withheld until the next quarterly meeting. Renewals: Leigh Xlotel to B. Guilden; Poroti Hotel to W. A. Abbott; Warkwortli Hotel to A. Holliday; Puhoi Hotel to Jas. Titford; Waiwera Hotel to Wm. Evans; Kamo Springs Hotel to W. H. Cuthbsrt. A wholesale licence was granted tc the Simons Proprietary, Ltd.

The chairman congratulated the licensees on the fine report of the police in respect to their hotels. He said he had had a lot to do with hotels and licensing matters, and the various reports reflected great credit on those who had the care and management of the hotels. It was desirable, Itnvever, that licensees should pay eYtiy attention to the requirements of the Public Health Department, especially in regard to flyproof netting, as in a climate such as that of North Auckland it was a matter of prime importance.
