SAILOR INJURED IN GAME
ACCIDENT AT NAVAL SOCCER MATCH While playing Soecer for H.M.S. Diomede against H.M.S. Dunedin at Blandford Park on Saturday, H. Garside, aged 22, an ordnance artificer, received serious internal injuries, when he was accidentally kicked as he fell on the ball. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he was examined. It was thought that he was suffering from nothing worse than a broken rib and he was allowed to go back to his ship; but about 9.30 p.m. his condition began to grow serious and the ship’s surgeon ordered, him back to hospital. He was brought across in a pinnace and was taken from the Admiralty Steps to the .hospital by the St. John Ambulance. This morning his condition was reported to be improving.
