Labourer Browned Inspecting Flood
BREACH IN BANK HAWKE’S BAY FATALITY Press Association NAPIER, Today. While inspecting flood damage yes-, terday, Francis O'Donnell, aged 28, a farm labourer, fell into a breach in the river bank at Meeanee, where the water was about 10 feet deep. He could not swim and, despite the valiant rescue efforts of four companions, was drowned. The body was recovered two hours later by dragging operations. John Aluir, a railway fireman, made great efforts to save O’Donnell, but had to give up as he found himself in difficulties and had to be assisted out of the deep water by a man named Stanford BODY BESIDE RIVER MAN DROWNED IN FLOOD Press Association PALMERSTON N., Today. The body of a man was found on the river bank at Tiakitahuna yesterday. No injuries were apparent and it is believed that deceased had been drowned and the body carried there by the recent flood. The spot where the body was found was covered last week by several feet of water. Deceased was apparently between 30 and 35 years of age. of strong and having a red moustache. Tho body was fully dressed except that there was no coat.
