LIBRARY WANTED
BOOKS IN FIRE STATION DEVONPORT’S NEED The borough of Devonport dose wt possess a public library despite the efforts of many citizens. Many years ago the present council chambers were erected to commem* orate Queen Victoria’s golden Jubilee, and were fitted out as a library and meeting room for the Borough Council. In the course of time the council, however, grew, so the library book* were sold. Since then Mr. W. J. Napier has bequeathed a fine library to the borough, and Air. and Airs. Barclay also bequeathed both books and a £SO donation. The Hapior bequest could not be housed, and has remained in the Napier home. The latter, however, has been transferred, and the council has now to find a safe place for the books. The only fire-px*oof building available is the fire brigade station, where the Barclay gift is now housed. It is proposed to move the Napier library thero also.
