WOODLANDS SWAMP
DRAINAGE BOARD DISCUSS SCHEME 65,000 ACRES TO BE DRAINED (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Friday. Definite progress was made by the conference of drainage boards at Hamilton toward, the adoption of a Government scheme of drainage of the Woodlands swamp of 65,000 acres. The- following drainage boards were represented:—Eureka, Freshfield, Napoto, Hillside, Maungawara, Woodlands and Tauhei. The following resolution was passed: “This meeting of drainage board representatives requests the Government immediately to set up a competent board of inquiry to investigate fully a comprehensive scheme of drainage for that area covered in the Government report on the Woodlands swamp, or any amendment thereof. That this board be asked to define the boundaries, engineering details, financial basis and rating representation for the proposed area, and that jvith the information at present before ps. the meeting accepts the principal of one control, advocated in the Woodlands swamp report.” This request will be presented to the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands, on his visit to. the district shortly.
