PONY GYMKHANA

ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK SPORTS AT EAST TAMAKI A very successful junior gymkhana was held on the East Tamaki sports grounds on Saturday afternoon. The function was held in connection with Animal Welfare Week, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the funds of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There was a large attendance of the public, who showed keen Interest In the efforts of the competitors. The list of events included riding, jumping and novelty competitions, and the efforts of the tiny tots received a good reception from the large gathering. The judge’s award to Murien Allen, a tot of five, was a very popular decision. The best group of four ponies from one school excited keen interest, and a splendid exhibition was made by the East Tamaki School, which entered three teams, and filled the first three places. The function was organised by Mrs. P. H. Smith, of East Tamaki, and Mr. Smith acted as clerk of the course. The judging was carried out by Messrs. H. Bulloek-Webster and E. Dard. Lady Lockhart assisted in judging the fancy costumes, and afterwards presented the successful competitors with their trophies.
