A by-election was held to-day for the Hallam (Sheffield) seat, rendered vacant by the appointment of Sir Frederick H. Sykes as Governor of Bombay. The poll res: od: Louis Smith (Conservative) 9,43 7 Flynn (Labour) 5,393 Hobman (Liberal) 2,715 Conservative majority ~ 4,024 The figures at the last general election were: Sir F. H. Sykes (Conservative) 15,546: E. Snelgrove (Labour), 8,807: Conservative majority, 6,739. .
