DIRECTION-TABLE ON MOUNTAIN DONATION TO FIRE BRIGADE The direction-table given by Mr. Ernest Davis, which had been placed on Mount Eden (reported the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, to the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening), had created a great deal of interest both to Aucklanders and visitors. Mr. Davis was taking steps to have the error in the position of Capetown, which arose from confusion between the magnetic north and the true north, corrected. It was decided that appreciation of the gift be placed on record. The Finance Committee recommended that the borough solicitors be instructed to support applications which may be made by private owners for bus licences. The engineer, Mr. J. Rogers, reported that work on the Edendale main sewer contract should be completed within the contract time. Plans were being prepared for the Balmoral Road section. Surveys and plans had been put in progress for the extension of improvements at Nicholson Park. During December 20 permits were issued to the value of £6,137 for the erection of houses and other buildin?t was decided to give £5 each to the City, Newmarket and Mount Albert fire brigades for assistance to the Mount Eden Brigade at the recent fire at Messrs. Henderson and Pollard’s factory. ... , , Members of the council criticised the state of the water at the Mount Eden swimming baths. The- Baths Committee had recently visited the St. Cuthbert’s School baths and had inspected the filtration plant used there, and it was thought a similar plant should be installed at the borough baths. The committee was instructed to report on the question.
