Master Mariner Fined for Assault
“TOO MANY DRINKS” STRIKES HOTEL PROPRIETOR Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The fact that he had too many drinks yesterday was the reason given by Oscar Edward Solvin, master mariner, for knocking down Thomas Coltman, proprietor of the Grand Hotel. It was stated in Court that when Solvin took no notice of the porter who went to warn him that he had little time to catch a boat, Coltman himself went to Solvin’s room with the information, whereupon Solvin knocked him down and stood’over him in a threatening attitude. Coltman had to obtain medical attention, his suit also being damaged. Solvin was fined £3, half the amount to go to Coltman. He was also ordered to pay £3 3s medical expenses.
