TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
DATES OF TOURNEYS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS Dctes for the Auckland provincial lawn tennis championships were fixed as January 2(>, 27, 28, and 30 by the management committee of the Auckland Association last night. The handicap tourney will be played on December -4, 26, 27, and 28. The president, Mr. E. Hickson, said that a decision to lay courts at the Domain had been made by the City Council. The chairman of the Parks Committee, Mr. F. W. Brinsden, had intimated that the assistance of the assoc ation in an i.dv’soiy capacity would be welcomed, and ..aessrs. Hickson, It. <». Thomson, E. V. Griffiths, and G. L. TayIh- were appo nted to confer with the committee. it was stated that there wa* room for 12 courts, and the opinion was expressed that six should be grass Hn .U the suggestion of Mr. E. W. Griffiths, it was decided that owing to the fad that there had been no competition recently for the Dunlop Shield, an inter-,-Uih trophv conducted on Davis Cup lines it should be presented for competition among country districts in the assoi iatior/s area. This was agreed to. :nd a committee was appointed to frame conditions. Regarding the North Island championship tournament, it was stated that AuckIrncl had been promised the next HXture and it was decided to apply to the New Zealand Association for permission to hold the gathering at Easter, commencing on Good Friday. The resignation of Mr C. Mon In, Birkenhead-Northcote delegate, was accepted with regret.
